Charlie Brown Cafe

Ok. So. I had known about this place for ages, but today I finally convinced someone to come with me and check it out. If you grew up with Charlie Brown, like me, then you will TOTALLY appreciate the awesome of this cafe.

Essentially, everything here pays homage to Charlie Brown and all of the cool characters that the series created. Peppermint Patty greets you on the stairway, the skylights picture Snoopy and Linus and Charlie Brown himself is hiding behind, practically, every corner.

The cafe offers a selection of beverages, in a mix of sizes. I went for an iced caramel latte ($41HKD) and it was really yummy.

They also have a huge selection of “Charlie-inspired” food. An a-la-carte menu is available, but if you are looking for something smaller, you can’t go passed the cabinet food. Tiramisu cups with the image of Charlie Brown, cake covered in Lucy and waffles with imprints of all the characters – so much fun!

If you are looking for a whole lot of cute to go with your sugary beverage, then you need not look any further!

When you type “Cafe Tsim Sha Tsui” in to a search engine, you come up with the same old locations, and while some of these places are ok, I find the service is generally pretty blah. Had a great time at Tamper Coffee the other day though, and will definitely be back to check out some more of their brews and to listen to more Depeche Mode!

Using Square Mile beans from the UK, these guys have only been open for a few months, but they really know their stuff. The barista (who I think was the owner) was happy to talk us through the menu and suggest different blends of hand-ground, drip coffee for us to taste. The service here was really top-notch and it was great to be served water without even having to ask (small deal, but makes the difference). It’s a tiny location, but the intimacy makes it easier to chat with the staff. Decor is sparse, with elements of color coming from the bright, green pandan chiffon cake, the tip jar and the awesome Speedster coffee machine, that looks like it is gonna take off at any moment!

We opted for the Rwandan option, which was more floral based, and the Nicaraguan, which had a more fruity vibe. Each coffee was $65HKD, but the barista made the whole process a real event, letting us smell the beans as he ground them and serving the coffee in a beaker with shot mugs. It was actually kind of like a wine-tasting and I really enjoyed chatting with him about the beans and the different flavors. Both of our choices were really good and quite different from each other, I would be interested to try an espresso, just to taste the difference in the extraction methods. Prices for standard coffee range from $20HKD and up.

You can get snacks here to nibble on here, but coffee is definitely the main event. Treat yo’self!
